Notified on 17 May 2006, this merger consists of the acquisition, by CSN Steel Corporation ("CSN"), of sole control of LUSOSIDER - Projectos Siderúrgicos SA ("LUSOSIDER"), an undertaking that, until the present transaction, was jointly controlled by CSN and Corus Staal BV.

On 30 June 2006, exercising the powers conferred on it by Article 17 (1) b) of its statutes, approved by Decree-Law 10/2003 of 18 January, the Council of the Competition Authority decided, under Article 35 (1) b) of Law No. 18/2003 of 11 June, not to oppose the above-mentioned merger on the grounds that it is not liable to create or reinforce a dominant position that may result in significant barriers to effective competition in i) the market for packaging steel and ii) the market for galvanized steel in Portugal.
